Family Golf Week kicked off Sunday with a full day’s worth of activities including the 4th Annual Mentor Cup at Tidewater Golf Club, and a Power Luncheon at Barefoot Resort & Golf hosted by Kelly Tilghman and highlighted by a roundtable discussion that included pioneers in the growth of women’s impact on the game.

The Mentor Cup included pairings of junior golfers with adults and raised funds to benefit Gene’s Dream Foundation, founded in memory of longtime Carolinas PGA Section professional Gene Weldon to support his vision of greater youth involvement in the game and the role that adults can play as mentors in the process.

Tilghman, the longtime Golf Channel personality who became the first and only female play-by-play announcer in PGA TOUR history, was joined at the Power Luncheon by Paige Cribb and Dan Brooks, each of whom have left indelible marks in advancing the roles of women in golf. Cribb shattered a glass ceiling when she became the first female president of the Carolinas PGA Section, and Brooks has led the Duke University women’s golf program to the greatest record in NCAA Division I history with seven national championships.

Family Golf Week activities continue with check-in days Tuesday and Wednesday at the Barefoot Resort Clubhouse, including a putting challenge and complimentary simulator use offered Wednesday. First-round play begins Thursday, followed by “Family Golf Night” activities at the Barefoot Resort Practice Facility from 4 – 8 p.m. Thursday that feature a skills challenge, demonstrations, food and beverage provided by Logan’s Roadhouse, and the Family Golf Week “Father of the Year” award presentation to former PGA TOUR pro Hugh Royer III.

Family Golf Week, which includes the Father & Son Team Classic and Parent & Child Team Classic, features three rounds of play at eight Myrtle Beach-area courses: The Pearl, the Love Course at Barefoot Resort, Shaftesbury Glen, Wachesaw Plantation East, Arcadian Shores, Glen Dornoch, Pine Lakes and Crow Creek.
